Presentation Notes
Podcasting is an efficient way to do oral reports.
Meets needs of ELL and IEP students and offers a differentiated method of assessment.
Addresses 21st century skill development and PSSA reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
Procedure:
  • Students have 11 novels to select from. Students research authors of novels to determine which novel they will select.
  • Students meet in reading groups as they read the novel.
  • Students complete novel questionnaire.
  • Students use the questionnaire to write their script. Students are given script (sample posted above) to write or type.
  • Students find images.
  • Students upload images to Moodle for classroom use for podcast.
  • Students create podcast and hand in work through Moodle.
Issues with podcasting projects
  • Transferring files - students should work on the same laptop for the entire project.
  • Timelines are extremely important! (Sample is posted above)
  • Have high expectations for student work completion and for final product

Suggestions from participants
PC users could use Audacity & Photostory.
MAC users could use iMovie or Keynote (recording would have to be in one session in Keynote.)
